"Could have sent a goodwill gesture"

I had a serious accident and a get well card delivered from a dear close family member was dirty, ripped in half & crumpled in a plastic PO bag. I would have expected a book of first class stamps as a gesture of goodwill. The card was not for display but for the bin. How disappointing to me and my family who had taken the time to select a beautiful card to cheer me up.
