A review of The Derby Hearing Centre by Matthew Trotter written on Saturday 30th of January 2016
Both ears, especially the left, were missing words.Without any testing, you could feel
there was a deeper cause.Lee tested me thoroughly by an audiogram, and at a
particular frequency, there was a deep trough, meaning great insensitivity. He tried me
with a particular hearing aid, adjusting where necessary-this was all done electronically. He suggested that because the ear weakness was beginning to be
compensated for,the mind would need time to adjust to the apparently strong signals-
the mind has become unused to them. The hearing aids needed subsequent
adjustment, but the favoured idea was to try a different variety. They were fitted and
adjusted, but there was subsequent difficulty simply because of my suffering ears.I
went back before my appointed time, and Lee straightaway tried me with a frequency
tester,which brought a fundamental improvement.Indeed,on the subsequent
appointment,he thought it would be best to keep to the settings. He suggested an
ultra powerful hearing aid,but did not really feel this would be suitable-it would be
too powerful. But the mind does take time to adjust to the new sounds, and it is
important to talk in groups-to have different 'sound environments' as it were.
The ears are like a muscle-they need to be exercised..
