A review of Hill Farm Camping & Caravan Park by Anonymous written on Tuesday 11th of August 2009
Hill Farm is in a nice quiet location, with a fair amount of space, and a nice friendly owner. That is where is stops – the facilities are extremely poor and the cost was high.
We were charged GBP 5.00 per person per night to use the tent field. Others were charged half as much again, with no reason as to why.
Apparently the drinking water supply had an underground breakage, so we were advised to use a hosepipe attached to the farmhouse.
Everyone in the tent field (sometimes in excess of 20 people) had not choice but to queue to use the 1 toilet. This was located on the side of the owners home, but once inside you would of thought you were in an outbuilding that had never been cleaned or maintained. Grot, filth, stench, massive spider webs, beetles and bugs galore!
The single room offered the 1 very dirty toilet (and rarely toilet paper), situated next to a radiator with all sorts of horrible looking splashes and runs down it, and a filthy grotty shower that managed a freezing cold dribble at best. The room also included a grotty sink used for washing up, clothes washing, hand washing and teeth cleaning. The only cleaning solution provided was watered down washing up liquid. In addition, the room had a selection of cupboards full of absolute random rubbish like empty bottles of weed killer (easily accessible to children) and was also home to a massive fuel tank. Every time you went in the room you came out sticking of diesel!! It was horrible; we didn’t want to touch anything.
How anyone can expect people to manage with that is beyond me completely. We are pretty down to earth and could quite easily camp for weeks on end and have no problem ‘roughing it’, but definitely couldn’t go 5 days without a shower or space for a good body wash, so we had to find a local swimming pool, and pay to use their facilities!
If the facilities were improved to a level where there were basic clean showers and toilets, and if there was a drinking water tap, we would visit again because of the quiet location, nice tent field, and it’s convenient location to Donnington Park.
